Medication Management

Medication management is a form of treatment for mental health symptoms. It is a medical appointment that involves meeting with you or your child’s provider to gather relevant physical and mental health information and review and update diagnoses, treatments tried, and their effects. It may involve collaborating with other medical or mental health providers. At SunRise, along with your provider, treatment planning is done to choose the medications and other treatments that may work best for you. The effect of treatment is monitored with periodic follow-up appointments. Any new problems or concerns that come up are addressed.

Computerized Cognitive Assessements

A new service we offer at SunRise is computerized cognitive assessment for our patients during treatment. These assessments are not diagnostic but an add-on to clinical assessments. Cognitive assessment can provide more specific information on how a person's brain works. It involves testing different aspects of their attention and memory, how they process information, and how this may impact This can help to understand a person's areas of strength and weaknesses and identify specific areas they may be struggling with that impact their thinking, learning, planning, organization, and other aspects of daily life.  Cognitive assessments may be recommended initially or periodically to assess and refine treatment, particularly related to medication management, to help fine-tune treatment. Cognitive assessments are available only for SunRise patients who are referred by their provider(s) here at SunRise.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is using talk therapy or other skills-building activities to become aware of, address, and cope with mental illness. Psychotherapy can be used alone to treat mental health conditions. Psychotherapy is often combined with medication to treat mental health conditions better. Psychotherapy can be used to promote healthy lifestyles. At SunRise, through supportive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational enhancement therapy (MET), interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and other therapies, we facilitate engagement in age-appropriate peer activities to increase their quality of life.

Parent Support and Training

Supporting parents caring for children with mental health conditions is often overlooked. At SunRise, parental support, psychoeducation, and training on successfully managing your child through the various facets of life are built into each appointment. For more in-depth training, Parent-only sessions are held as needed.

Problematic Gaming and Electronics Addiction

Electronics are part of modern life. Education, communication, peer interaction, and supervision are now heavily electronics-based. While most children game and use electronics in a healthy way, there are some who struggle and use them in an unhealthy way. Problematic gaming or gaming addiction interferes with the child’s natural physical, emotional, and social development. At SunRise, our provider is both a child specialist and an addiction specialist. Through a combination of motivational enhancement therapy and medication management when needed, we create effective treatment plans for such children who struggle with problematic electronic use and gaming disorders.
